Canada's Rachel Homan and John Morris captured their first mixed doubles curling win at Beijing 2022 on Thursday.

The Ottawa duo bounced back from a loss to world champions Great Britain with a 7-6 victory over PyeongChang 2018 bronze medallists Kristin Skaslien and Magnus Nedregotten of Norway.

Homan, who shot 85 per cent in the round robin win, didn't have to throw Canada's last rock with the win secured after a Norway miss.

Norway took a 2-0 lead in the first end but Canada was able to double that in the second with Homan and Morris' best end in Beijing so far.

WATCH l Homan, Morris edge Norway 7-6 to bounce back from loss to Great Britain:

"I think we just picked up a little bit more on the ice tendencies and just kind of went to school. You're going to have those mistakes in the first game," Homan said.

"Last night [in the defeat to Great Britain] we saw a lot of misses, uncharacteristic from the best in the world. And we all just learned from what the ice was doing and just sharpened up."

Morris shares the "going to school" approach and believes the Canadian duo can still improve.

"We're not playing our absolute best yet, but it's early in the week," said Morris. "We're really working hard at getting everything we can out of each other ... it just feels better to have a win under the belt."

The Norwegian duo got one back in the third end to make it 4-3.

Canada had a single of its own in the fourth to double its lead but Norway tied the match in the fifth with a double that required measurement to be confirmed.

Homan and Morris added another single in the sixth to regain the lead at 6-5, missing a chance for a double with the last rock.

Norway used their powerplay in the seventh end, but were forced to take only a single with the last rock and tie the game at 6-6 before Canada saw out the win in the eighth.

In other results, Switzerland beat Great Britain 8-7, Czech Republic edged Australia 8-2 and Sweden defeated China 7-6.

"All those four matches tonight, every one of them was fantastic and keeps you on the edge of your seat," said Morris. "That's what curling needs, is a little bit more action like that."

Homan and Morris will get back on the ice at 7.30 P.M. ET to face PyeongChang 2018 silver medallists Switzerland.

The Swiss team of Jenny Perret and Martin Rios played Kailtyn Lawes and Morris in the gold medal game four years ago. You can watch that match on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. ET on CBCSports.ca, the CBC Sports app, or on CBC Gem.
