Switzerland hands Canada's Brad Gushue 1st loss in Beijing
Team from St. John's now has a 2-1 record
Switzerland edged Canada 5-3 in men's curling on Friday to hand Brad Gushue's Canadian team their first loss at Beijing 2022.
Canada scored a deuce in the sixth end to pull even with Peter de Cruz, but a force and a steal gave the Swiss skip a two-point lead entering the 10th.
Switzerland ran Canada out of rocks to win it.
"Our expectation wasn't to go through undefeated by any means," Gushue said. "We know it's going to be a struggle and a grind to get into the playoffs.
"This just makes it a little bit more of a grind."

Canada, who previously beat Denmark 10-5 and Norway 6-5, will face Sweden next on Saturday 1 a.m. ET (CBCSports.ca, the CBC Sports app, CBC Gem).
Sweden's Niklas Edin (3-0) is now the lone unbeaten skip in the 10-team draw.
"We know that we were playing the best team in the world, we needed a few breaks and we got them, fortunately. Overall a quite solid game for us," de Cruz said.
In other results, Great Britain beat Norway 8-3 and the Russian Olympic Committee breezed past Denmark 10-2.
Canada fell into a four-way tie at 2-1 with Switzerland, Great Britain's Bruce Mouat and defending champion John Shuster of the United States.
