Canadians crowd podium in 2-man bobsleigh World Cup
Kripps grabs standings lead with silver; Spring, Lascelles, Humphries earn bronze
Canada has captured three medals at World Cup bobsled event in Lake Placid, N.Y.
Justin Kripps and Jesse Lumsden won a silver in the two-man competition, finishing in one minute 49.74 seconds. The Canadian duo was just 0.01 ahead of teammates Chris Spring and Lascelles Brown.
"The first run I made a big mistake in the exit of corner 12. I just went back to the top and the coaches gave me a couple of tips," said Kripps. "It was a pretty awesome second run. We knew we had to lay down a perfect run. We did what we needed to do and it is just really nice to be back on the podium."
Last year Kripps also found success at Lake Placid, with a bronze in the four-man. This year's finish, however, was Kripps' third career two-man medal and first with Lumsden on the brakes.
"This is a big one for Jesse and I. We were looking to get in the medals in the first half of the season. It didn't happen in Whistler so we are pumped to get the silver today," added Kripps.

Olympic champion Kaillie Humphries and partner Cynthia Appiah were third in the women's race in 1:53.05.
The Canadian duo clocked in at 1:53.05 to secure Humphries' sixth World Cup medal in Lake Placid, bringing her overall career total to 39.
"It was a good race with tough competition," said Humphries, who added Appiah to her squad this fall. "The ice was extremely hard, extremely slick so controlling the sleds has been a challenge all week. We had a couple of timing issues at the start and I struggled with corners one, two and three today. The runs weren't perfect by any means, but I thought they were decent."
Steven Holcomb of the U.S. continued his dominance at his home track, winning with Sam McGuffie in 1:49.47.
It was the sixth time Holcomb won gold out of the last seven international two-man races in Lake Placid, with one of those victories coming in the 2012 world championships. The other five wins have been in World Cups.
Fellow American Jamie Greubel Poser won gold in the women's event.
She and Aja Evans finished their two runs on a frigid day in 1 minute, 52.02 seconds, taking advantage of super-hard, super-fast ice to set a track record of 55.81 along the way.
"We were so excited to see that time when we crossed the finish line," Greubel Poser said. "I was screaming, we were just so excited to know that we went that fast. We literally gave everything we had at the top."
