Snow nixes Lake Louise training

The second of three scheduled training runs for this weekend's World Cup men's downhill opener in Lake Louise, Alta., was cancelled Thursday due to heavy snowfall.

"We were told that there was another major system coming through so there was no chance that we could make the race track safe enough for the athletes do go down," said chief race organizer Darrell MacLachlan.  "We will be working day and night to make sure that the track will be ready for tomorrow's last training run."

Didier Cuche of Switzerland had the best time in Wednesday's opening practice session. Robbie Dixon of North Vancouver, B.C., was fourth.

The race is set for Saturday (CBC, CBCSports.ca, 1:30 p.m. ET).

Lake Louise will also host the first men's super-G of the season on Sunday (Bold, CBCSports.ca, 1 p.m. ET).
