Ligety wins giant slalom in Beaver Creek

Ted Ligety won Sunday's World Cup giant slalom race in Colorado, while U.S. teammate Bode Miller finished way back in 27th place.

Ligety flew through the course in a combined time of two minutes, 37.67 seconds Sunday, edging Kjetil Jansrud of Norway by 0.82 seconds. Marcel Hirscher of Austria finished third.

After a slow opening run, Miller switched skis, but that didn't help as he finished 8.68 seconds behind Ligety.

Swiss skier Daniel Albrecht returned to racing and wound up in 21st place. Albrecht had a horrific crash nearly two years ago during a downhill training run at Kitzbuehel, Austria, that left him with brain and lung injuries.

Defending champ Carlo Janka of Switzerland missed a gate in the final run and didn't finish.
