Canada's Christopher Robanske tops snowboardcross field

Lucas Eguibar of Spain and Nelly Moenne Loccoz of France claimed the overall snowboardcross World Cup titles on Saturday despite not winning the third and final race of the season in the Spanish Pyrenees. Christopher Robanske of Canada won the men's race ahead of American Alex Deibold.

Calgary's Christopher Robanske won the season's final men's snowboardcross race at La Molina, Spain ahead of American Alex Deibold

The 25-year-old Robanske won on the World Cup circuit for the second time, following a 2013 victory at Blue Mountain in Collingwood, Ont. He's also had four previous podium finishes on the World Cup circuit.

Lucas Eguibar of Spain and Nelly Moenne Loccoz of France claimed the overall snowboardcross World Cup titles on Saturday despite not winning the third and final race of the season in the Spanish Pyrenees. 

The 21-year-old Eguibar didn't advance past the quarterfinals, but celebrated the crystal globe trophy with his home fans after his nearest rivals failed to catch him in the points standings.

Moenne Loccoz wrapped up the women's title after finishing second behind race winner and countrywoman Charlotte Bankes.

Riders faced heavy snow and gusting winds throughout the day.

Five Canadian men were entered with Kevin Hill advancing to the quarter-finals, finishing 15th. Hill wound up fourth overall for the season, with robanske fifth.

Baptiste Brochu, Tyler Jackson and Danny Bourgeois did not advance past the qualifying round.

For the Canadian women, Dominique Maltais was sixth in the final event and placed second overall behind Loccoz of France.

Meryeta Odine, Carle Brenneman and Katie Anderson were 16, 17 and 18th in Saturday's event.
