The alpine World Cup season kicks into full gear this weekend with wall-to-wall coverage from CBC Sports.

The action begins Saturday with the season debut of the GMC Alpine Ski Series on CBC, starting with the first run of the women's giant slalom from Aspen, Colo. (CBC, CBCSports.ca, 12 p.m. ET), followed immediately by the men's downhill opener from Lake Louise, Alta. (CBC, CBCSports.ca, 1:30 p.m. ET).

After that comes the final run of the women's GS (CBC, CBCSports.ca, 3 p.m. ET).

On Sunday, watch the season-opening men's super-G live from Lake Louise (Bold, CBCSports.ca, 1 p.m. ET). A replay of the race can be seen later on CBC Television (3:30 p.m. ET).

CBC Sports will carry more than 10 hours of World Cup coverage from Lake Louise on multiple platforms over the next two weekends for the season-opening men's and women's speed events.

CBC's coverage follows the world's top ski racers around the globe all season long, including the famed men's downhill race at Kitzbuehel, Austria, on Jan. 23.

"We're pleased to once again be home to the very best in World Cup skiing," said Scott Moore, executive director of CBC Sports. "This is a crucial season for Canadian competitors as they strive for the podium at events around the world and right here at home.

"CBC will be there every week as they compete to make this a season to remember, and with live coverage on CBC Television, CBC's digital channel Bold, and CBCSports.ca, Canadians won't miss a moment of the action."

Gemini Award winner Scott Russell hosts the GMC Alpine Ski Series on CBC alongside veteran play-by-play man Steve Armitage. Kerrin Lee-Gartner and Todd Brooker will supply insight and analysis.
