Marie-Philip Poulin will sport the captain's 'C' for the second time this year when Canada's national women's hockey team competes at the 4 Nations Cup, starting Wednesday in Sundsvall, Sweden.

The 24-year-old forward from Beauceville, Que., also captained Canada at the world championship in Malmo, Sweden in April.

"It's an honour [to be named captain] every time you come here for Team Canada and you wear that jersey, it's a proud moment," Poulin said in a statement released by Hockey Canada. "To see the great group of girls and the talent we have, it's quite awesome."

Poulin, a member of Canada's Olympic gold medal teams in 2010 and 2014, previously won gold at the 4 Nations Cup in 2009 and 2010.

She currently plays for the Montreal Canadiennes of the Canadian Women's Hockey League.

Forwards Meghan Agosta and Natalie Spooner along with defenceman Lauriane Rougeau are Canada's alternate captains.

Canada opens the tournament Wednesday against Finland at 10 a.m. ET. The Canadians round out preliminary-round action against the United States (Thursday) and Sweden (Saturday).

The bronze- and gold-medal contests will be played Sunday.

Since the 4 Nations Cup debut in 1996, Canada has won 14 times and earned five silver medals.
