German luge duo of Wendl, Arlt takes doubles World Cup event

Tobias Wendl and Tobias Arlt of Germany won a World Cup doubles luge race Friday night, ending Toni Eggert and Sascha Benecken's perfect start to the season.

Snith, Walker, top Canadians finish 18th

Tobias Wendl and Tobias Arlt of Germany won a World Cup doubles luge race Friday night, ending fellow compatriots' Toni Eggert and Sascha Benecken's perfect start to the season.

Wendl and Arlt finished in 44.742 seconds. The competition was shortened to a one-run event for the second consecutive week, this time because of heavy snow earlier Friday.

Andris Sics and Juris Sics of Latvia were second in 44.816. Eggert and Benecken were third in 44.896, seeing their four-race win streak to start the season snapped.

The top Canadian finishers were Tristan Walker and Justin Snith in 18th place, with a time of 45.629.

In the men's race later Friday, Roman Repilov of Russia had the fastest times in both heats and won in 1:32.254.

Wolfgang Kindl of Austria was second in 1:32.450, and Dominik Fischnaller of Italy was third in 1:32.572. 

Mitchel Malyk was the top Canadian male in 18th, while Reid Watts finished 28th.
