Andre De Grasse leads Canada into final of 4x100m relay

Andre De Grasse helped Canada qualify for the final in the men's 4x100-metre final Saturday at the World track and field championships, as they finished first in their heat. Canada's women also qualified for the final in the 4x100m and 4x400m relays.

It was a solid Saturday morning for Canada at the World track and field championships in Beijing, as all three relay teams in competition qualified for their respective finals.

Canada's men's relay team, led by star sprinter and 100-metre bronze medallist Andre De Grasse, qualified for the final of the 4x100-metre relay, finishing fifth in their heat, but sixth overall among the two heats.

They will be in lane three for the final, right next to Jamaica.

The Canadian squad, consisting of  De Grasse, Brendon Rodney, Justyn Warner, and Aaron Brown, posted a time of 38.03 seconds.

Jamaica, France, China, Antigua & Barbuda finished ahead of Canada in their heat, qualifying for the finals, while the U.S. Great Britain & Northern Ireland, and Germany round out the competition going for gold. 

Usain Bolt, who won the 100-200 sprint double, didn't run for the Jamaican team that won the second heat in 37.41 seconds. 

However, he is expected to run for Jamaica in the final, where they will undoubtedly have their hands full with the U.S., led by Justin Gatlin.

Gatlin, who has two silver medals in the first two meetings with the Jamaican, has been feeling the effects of all this racing.

"I hope he's tired, too," Gatlin said.

Canada's women set national record in 4x100m

Canada's women qualified for the final in the women's 4x100m relay, finishing third in their heat.

Crystal Emmanuel, Kimberly Hyacinthe, Isatu Fofanah, and Khamica Bingham set a national record time of 42.60 seconds.

Jamaica and Great Britain & Northern Ireland finished ahead of Canada in their heat, while the U.S. won heat two. 

Trinidad & Tobago, Netherlands, Russia, and China will also compete in the final, which will take place Saturday night.

Canadian women qualify in 4x400m

Canada's women's 4x400m relay team also qualified for the final, posting a time of 3:26.14 

Caroline Muir, Aiyanna Stiverne, Sage Watson, and Nicole Sassine finished fourth in their heat to qualify for the final which takes place Sunday. Nigeria, Jamaica, and Russia finished ahead of Canada in their heat, while the U.S., Great Britain & Northern Ireland, France, Ukraine qualified from heat 2.
