The Rio 2016 Olympic Games were filled with unforgettable moments from the best athletes in the world. Among those sporting moments were love stories that touched  hearts worldwide.

Track's power couple defend Team North America

Canada's Brianne Theisen-Eaton and her American husband Ashton Eaton drew a lot of attention at the Rio Olympics, but not just for their otherworldly athletic feats.

Brianne had a rough start in the opening day of heptathlon, which was seemingly made worse when people became critical of Ashton sporting a Canada cap while supporting his wife from the sidelines. He didn't let the objections hold him back and continued to rally behind his wife.

The Humboldt, Sask., native relayed all that encouragement into a huge comeback, jumping from sixth place to a bronze-medal finish in the final day of heptathlon.

Soon after, they solidified themselves as track and field's reigning power couple as Ashton successfully defended his Olympic decathlon title. Even after his own victory, the gold medallist continued to gush about his wife's achievements.

The couple, who have been married since 2013, have sacrificed a lot to get their magic moments at Rio and really redefined "Relationship Goals" for the rest of us.

Rio inspires Olympic proposals

Many more athletes went on to win our hearts by capping off their Olympic performances with a handful of proposals.

American triple jumper Will Claye followed up a silver-medal showing by proposing to fellow track team member Queen Harrison, who was there to lend her support after failing to qualify at the Olympic trials.

Britain's Tom Bosworth finished sixth in the 20-kilometre men's race walk and the 26-year-old extended the celebration by asking his boyfriend to marry him.

However, the athletes can't take all the credit, venue worker Marjorie Enya started the trend when she proposed to Brazilian rugby player Isadora Cerullo, who had just finished ninth in the inaugural rugby sevens event.

Golden cycling pair takes off

Great Britain's Laura Trott and Jason Kenny's relationship now spans two Olympic Games and they have the medal haul to prove it.

The British answer to the Eatons collected five track cycling gold medals between them in Rio. Trott won the women's omnium and the women's team pursuit, while fiance Jason Kenny claimed top spot in the men's keirin, men's sprint and men's team sprint.

Like the Eatons, they are each other's biggest fans.
