Canada's Klimkait wins bronze at Grand Slam judo competition

Canada's Jessica Klimkait won a bronze medal in the under-57 kilogram division Saturday at the Ekaterinburg Grand Slam judo competition.

Montreal's Ecaterina Guica was 5th in the U-52 kilogram division

Canada's Jessica Klimkait won a bronze medal in the under-57 kilogram division Saturday at the Ekaterinburg Grand Slam judo competition.

Klimkait, from Whitby, Ont., beat Russia's Daria Mezhetckaia with two waza-aris.

"I fought pretty well today," she said. "I'm happy because it's my first Grand Slam medal."

After two preliminary wins, the Canadian fell by ippon in the semifinal to Japan's Nae Udaka.

Montreal's Ecaterina Guica was fifth in the U-52 kilogram division and Stefanie Tremblay of Saguenay, Que., was fifth in the U-63 kilo division.

Arthur Margelidon of Montreal was fifth in the U-73 men's division.
