Canada's men's beach volleyball team picked up a silver medal at the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Tour Cincinnati Open.

Josh Binstock and Sam Schachter, both of Richmond Hill, Ont., lost the final in straight sets (22-20, 21-8) to Brazil's Gustavo Carvalhaes and Saymon Barbosa.

"We're definitely upset about losing in the finals, as we didn't play with the same rhythm and aggression we had all tournament, however, we are very happy with our overall performance," Binstock said. "We have been playing consistently well over the last few tournaments.

"This had a 'home' tournament feel to it, in the sense that it was the closest world tour event to Canada and our parents [and] families drove down to watch us play, so it was extra special to do well here."

On the women's side, Canada's top finishers were the teams of Sarah Pavan (Kitchener, Ont.) and Heather Bansley (Waterdown, Ont.), and Jamie Broder (Victoria) and Kristina Valjas (Toronto) who both finished in the fifth slot.

The FIVB World Tour returns to Russia next weekend for the FIVB Moscow Grand Slam.
