Catharine Pendrel adds cycling World Cup to Olympic bronze

Canadian cyclist Catharine Pendrel claimed the overall cross-country cycling World Cup title on Sunday. The Kamloops, B.C. native finished the season with 1030 points, enough for her third overall title.

Canadian cyclist Catharine Pendrel claimed the overall cross-country cycling World Cup title on Sunday.

Pendrel, who overcame an early crash to win won bronze at the Rio Olympics, finished third at the final cycling event of the season in Andorra. The Kamloops, B.C. native finished the season with 1030 points, enough for her third overall title.

"World Cup champion feels so good after the suffer-fest out there today," Pendrel said in a press release from Cycling Canada. "It wasn't the prettiest race but it got the job done."

Pendrel was joined on the overall podium by Brooklin, Ont.'s Emily Batty. Batty's 12th-place finish was good enough to secure third in the final standings. Annika Langvad of Denmark was second.
