Canada scores gold, silver at Canoe Sprint World Cup event

Canada's Laurence Vincent-Lapointe and Katie Vincent started the 2019 ICF World Cup season by climbing the podium together.

Vincent-Lapointe and her compatriot Katie Vincent finished first and second, respectively in the women's C1 200-metre event at the ICF Canoe Sprint World Cup in Poznan, Poland.

Vincent-Lapointe won the final of the women's C1 200-metre event in 45.265 seconds, followed by her teammate Vincent in 46.413.

"I surprise myself every race because being the first to win doesn't mean much if you cannot stay first," said Vincent-Lapointe of Trois-Rivières, Que. "In 2010 I won here, at the world championships, and it was my first world championship medal.

"The fact I've stayed [in contention] this long always amazes me.

"I want to be remembered not because I was first but also because I stayed first for as long as I could. It's important."

China's Lin Wenjun rounded out the podium with a time of 46.793.
