Marco Arop wins 800m at Grand Slam Track stop in Florida

Edmonton's Marco Arop captured the Grand Slam Track victory in the men's 800 metres on Saturday and was second overall in the short distance group, won by Great Britain's Josh Kerr at the professional league stop in Miramar, Fla.

After taking the lead on the bell lap, Edmonton's Marco Arop held on to win the men's 800 metres at the Grand Slam Track event in Miramar, Fla. on Saturday. 

He finished in a season's best one minute 43.69 seconds to edge American Yared Nuguse (1:43.75) and Australian Peter Bol (1:44.13).

Josh Kerr of Great Britain claimed the men's short distance title and $100,000 US prize after finishing fifth in the 800 with a 1:45.01 personal best. Kerr's result earned him four points to add to his 12 accumulated from his victory in the 1,500 on Friday.

Arop placed second in the short distance group.

Bednarek takes 100m

American star, Kenny Bednarek won the men's 100 in 9.79. Canadians Jerome Blake (10.04) and Andre De Grasse (10.05) were seventh and eighth.

Lucia Stafford of Toronto finished sixth in the women's 1,500 in 4:14.66. 

Ethiopia's Freweyni Hailu took the race in 4:06.96, ahead of Nikki Hiltz (4:07.08) and fellow American Diribe Welteji (4:07.46).
