Canadian diver Caeli McKay finishes just off podium in Olympic women's 10m platform
Calgarian finishes 7.6 points shy of bronze for 2nd 4th-place finish at Paris Games
Canadian diver Caeli McKay has fallen just short of the podium again, finishing fourth in women's 10-metre platform at the Paris Games roughly a week after she and partner Kate Miller landed in the same spot in the synchronized event.
McKay, of Calgary, jumped from eighth to fourth place in her third dive but couldn't crack the top three over her next two dives Tuesday at the Aquatics Centre in Saint-Denis, France.
She earned a total of 364.50 points over five dives, with her third and last dives tied for her highest scores.
"I'm very proud of myself," McKay said. "It was a really, really good event. Getting fourth when you've put everything out there, didn't hold back and didn't miss anything, is all that I could have done."
China's Quan Hongchan won her second consecutive Olympic gold in the event, with a score of 425.60. The teen won in Tokyo with a record-setting performance at age 14.
Her teammate Chen Yuxi scored a total of 420.70 to take home the silver, also reprising her Tokyo ranking.
North Korea's Kim Mi Rae secured the bronze with 372.10 points.
"After my last dive, I knew it would be tight," McKay said. "Kim Mi Rae nailed her last dive, and I couldn't control that."

McKay also finished fourth in synchronized diving in Tokyo with former partner Meaghan Benfeito.
"Getting fourth twice at the same Olympics and getting fourth three times in my Olympic career is a little bit tough," she said. "But I have no regrets. I have nothing I would have changed."
Quan and Chen teamed up earlier to win the 10-metre synchronized event in Paris.
China is aiming for an unprecedented sweep of the eight diving golds. The Chinese so far have won five golds after winning the four synchronized competitions in the opening week of the Games.
"I spent three years that were very difficult. I overcame a lot of things," Quan said. "If I list all of them, we will never finish. I'm very happy to have this gold."
