Canadian fans held back tears along with the women as they lined up to receive their silver medals. But as one Twitter user noted, the sadness turned again to smiles once they rewatched what's being pegged as the #GIFoftheGames.
I hate that the medal was won by a shootout, but had to laugh at this video of #ScottMoir again. The GIF-able moment occurred when Canadian rookie Sarah Nurse received a penalty, the team's third infraction in the first period. The camera went to a crowd shot of Team Canada athletes, including ice dance gold medallist Scott Moir reacting to the call.
As soon as the moment hit the screen, it seemed Canadians fell even harder for the five-time Olympic medallist.
He's not on the ice and yet somehow Scott Moir manages to produce the highlight of the first period. https://t.co/QbhgDxMknp

Some fans knew right away it was going to be a memorable moment, even "a part of our heritage."

Joining Moir was his hockey-viewing buddy, and fellow figure skater, Patrick Chan, who also attended the women's gold-medal game won by Canada in 2014.
Moir and Chan hockey buddies in 2014 too! pic.twitter.com/an9jfU5MJw
