Olympic wake-up call: Day 7 news you might have missed from the Winter Games
Canadian women's curling falls to 0-3, Hanyu sets Olympic short-skate record

Canada's women's curling team dropped to 0-3 and Japanese figure skater Yuzuru Hanyu had a record-setting return from injury, while the Canadian men's rink improved to 4-0 at the Winter Games in Pyeongchang, South Korea.

Homan 'burned' by Denmark
Canadian skip Rachel Homan couldn't convert on a takeout with the hammer in extra ends as Canada lost 9-8 to Denmark in 11 ends. Adding to the rink's 0-3 start is the scrutiny facing Homan after an etiquette faux pas in the fifth end, where she chose to remove a burned Danish rock rather than leaving it as is customary.
Canada will have another chance at its first win against the United States on Saturday at 6:05 a.m. ET.

Koe remains perfect
Kevin Koe and the Canadian men's rink are off to a 4-0 start after a 7-6 victory over winless South Korea.

Blondin edged in 5,000
Canada's Ivanie Blondin stumbled down the stretch of the women's 5,000-metre final and settled for a fifth-place finish just ahead of teammate Isabelle Weidemann.
Blondin won bronze at this distance at the 2017 world single distance championships and placed sixth in the 3,000 earlier in the Games.
Hanyu sets Olympic standard
Defending men's gold medallist Yuzuru Hanyu established a new Olympic short program record of 111.68 points, just 1.04 shy of his world record. The 23-year-old is looking to become the first man since 1952 to win back-to-back Olympic figure skating titles.
Patrick Chan, whose participation in the team event gold medal was a bright moment in an otherwise tough season, is sixth heading into the free skate after falling on a triple Axel attempt.
The free skate also features Canada's Keegan Messing and begins Friday night at 8 p.m. ET.

Shiffrin short of slalom podium
American skier Mikaela Shiffrin already owns giant slalom gold from these Games, but came up short in her bid to repeat as Olympic slalom champ. The 2014 Sochi gold medallist finished 8-100ths of a second off the podium as Sweden's Frida Hansdotter took the crown. Shiffrin told reporters between the first and second run that she began her day with a bout of nausea.
Sliders in tough
Canadian sliders are currently out of medal position after two runs in women's skeleton. Elisabeth Vathje, who finished third on the overall World Cup circuit this season, had Canada's best result in eighth. Jane Channell sits at 11th, while Mirela Rahneva is 13th.
The final two runs of the event go Saturday (6:20 a.m. ET).
Other medal events
- Swiss cross-country skier Dario Cologna won the 15-kilometre free, Canadian Alex Harvey was 7th.
- Matthias Mayer of Austria is the men's alpine super G champ, with Canada's Dustin Cook 9th.
- Canada had no finalists in the women's snowboard cross, won by Italian Michela Moioli.
What's coming up Friday?
Hockey
Canada's men's team looks to improve to 2-0 when the face off against the Czech Republic at 10:10 p.m. ET. The Czechs beat South Korea 2-1 to start the tournament.
