Golden 'Grams: A tweet gets the Arkells to the Olympics
And '80s icon Mr. T talks curling on CBC's As It Happens
By Tanya Casole-Gouveia, CBC Sports
A little band from Hamilton is heading across the ocean to play for Team Canada, and a big personality from the '80s has a new found love of curling.
Here's what Canadians were double-tapping on our feed today:
No pity here, just some 'controlled mayhem'
The notable '80s wrestler-turned-actor, Mr. T, has been a vocal supporter of Canadian curlers this Olympics. He was on CBC's As it Happens and says he was "embarrassed" by the recent attention, but he's taking it all in stride. He left us with a rock-solid take away: "I always tell people to try something before you knock it."
Stay humble
So as to not interrupt his teammate Shoma Uno's interview, reigning Olympic champion, (and now double-gold medallist), Yuzuru Hanyu, gets on all fours to crawl quietly behind.
That's the Arkells, knockin' at South Korea's door
It was a social media miracle!
Canadian rock band the Arkells heard that their hit song Knocking At The Door was being played nightly at Canada House in Pyeongchang and tweeted, "We need to go to Korea stat and play this for our Canadian Olympians." But smartly tagged @TeamCanada & @AirCanada, and the rest is history...or will be. Word on the street is they take off on Wednesday.
Many fans and Olympians, including gold medallist Tessa Virtue, tweeted their delight at this musical development. And don't worry, the Arkells are Olympic-ready thanks to their bobsleigh training a few months back with Jesse Lumsden and Helen Upperton.
