After her performance, Dufour-Lapointe was beaming.

"It feels so good," she told the CBC, crediting her family with giving her the strength to compete. "It was really a tough year so for me this medal means so much," she told the CBC.

French skier Perrine Lafont took the gold, the first time a French athlete has done so in the 26-year history of the event.

Kazakh skier Yulia Galysheva won bronze. It was that country's first-ever medal in moguls, and just the eighth medal ever in any Winter Olympics, since Kazakhstan started competing independently following the break-up of the Soviet Union.

Three other Canadians competed in the finals, with Justine's sister Chloé Dufour-Lapointe finishing in 17th place, after failing to move on to the final group of 12 skiers.

Canadian Audrey Robichaud finished in ninth.

Another Canadian, Andi Naude, made the final six, but she missed a gate on her final run and as such did not finish.

"I must have just gone a little bit too big on that top air," Naude told the CBC after the race, describing what happened after she landed her first jump, when she missed a gate in the middle portion of the race.

"I just had a struggle getting back on the line and had to pull out."

But she said she was proud to have been able to represent her country on the world stage.

"It's not ideal," Naude said. "It wasn't a medal, but what can you do?"
