Canada wins silver and bronze in short-track speed skating
Canadian skater Marianne St-Gelais eliminated in quarter-finals, ending her decorated Olympic career

Canadian short-track speed skater Kim Boutin won a silver medal in the women's 1,000, and her Canadian teammates won a bronze on the men's side in the 5,000-metre relay on Thursday in Pyeongchang, South Korea

Boutin was near the front of the pack in the five-person, 1,000-metre race right from the start. Her position solidified in the last lap, when two South Korean skaters took each other out behind her.

She jostled for position with the leader, but eventually crossed the line in second place, right behind Dutch gold medallist Suzanne Schulting and ahead of Italy's Arianna Fontana.
Boutin has now won bronze in the 500 and the 1,500, and a silver in the 1,000.

Men win bronze
There were more medals to come for Canada on the speed-skating oval, as Canada's men's relay team took to the ice in the 5,000-metre later on Thursday.

The four-person team of Samuel Girard, Charles Hamelin, Charle Cournoyer and Pascal Dion spent much of their time near the lead early in the grueling endurance race, but seemed to stumble at the end.
Ultimately, a Hungarian team crossed the line first, with a Chinese team right behind them. Canada took the bronze.

It's also the fifth Olympic medal for Hamelin, tying the record for the most decorated male Canadian Olympian ever.
Fellow short trackers Marc Gagnon and François-Louis Tremblay also have five.
On the women's side, Cindy Klassen and Clara Hughes have six each.
Hamelin has won three golds, a silver and now a bronze in four Olympic competitions dating back to Turin in 2006.
He said coming into these Games, that they would be his last, but he was ecstatic to go out with a medal he gets to share with his teammates.
"It was a crazy race. It was an awesome race," Hamelin said. "We had a plan. It didn't work like we planned [but]Â I think this is short track.
"We raced for the gold and I think the medal we have right now, the bronze, can be as proud as if we were the gold medallist," Hamelin said.
Thursday's medals also mark the official end of short-track events in Pyeongchang.
Canada came away with three bronzes, a silver and a gold on the oval — five medals out of eight events.
