Bracket Battle: Virtue and Moir win fan vote for best photo of the 2018 Winter Olympics

Enter CBC Olympics' very own March Madness bracket designed to find the best photo of the 2018 Olympic Winter Games.

The best part? YOU decided.

Everyday at 12 p.m. ET, a series of photo matchups was posted to the CBC Olympics' Instagram story from March 1 to March 6.

Each photo was seeded 1 through 16 and photos "competed" against each other in knockout rounds until only one was left to be crowned champion.

Here's how each round went down:

• March 1 - First half of Round 1

The photo of Scott Moir kissing Tessa Virtue's head while skating a victory lap advanced with 89 per cent of the votes in their matchup. With 75 per cent of the votes, the photo of Canadian ski cross gold and silver medallists Kelsey Serwa and Brittany Phelan advanced. The photo of Mark McMorris laying down a 'method' on his final big air jump advanced with 72 per cent of the votes. Finally, the photo of Kaetlyn Osmond and her coach being shocked by her score after the figure skating free program also advanced with 69 per cent of the votes. 

• March 2 - Second half of Round 1

Marie-Phiip Poulin's check on Brianna Decker entered as the second seed but was upset by the ABM boys, who won with 58 per cent of the vote. Sebastien Toutant's selfie after big air gold moved through with 79 per cent. Andi Naude's upside down snow-filled moguls jump got through to the quarter-finals with 71 per cent of the votes and so did Canada's bobsleigh team with their tunnel vision-style photo at 56 per cent of the votes.

• March 3 - First half of quarter-finals

In the first set of quarter-final matchups, Virtue and Moir had no trouble once again, beating out the best-friend hug of Phelan and Serwa, taking 85 per cent of the vote. McMorris' method moved on to the final four as well, beating Osmond's surprise with 61 per cent of the votes.

• March 4 - Second half of quarter-finals

In the second set of quarter-final matchups, Toutant's selfie was on the winning side of a 60-40 split against the barechested ABM boys. On the other side, Naude's upside down dominance continued, winning 67 per cent of the votes over the Canadian bobsleigh tunnel.

• March 5 - Semifinals

And then there was four. In the semifinals, No. 1 seed Virtue and Moir continued their reign, soundly defeating the McMorris method 78 per cent to 22 per cent. In the other semi, Toutant's selfie game was most definitely on point, taking 64 per cent of the vote and knocking out Naude's snowy, serene scene. 

• March 6 - Finals

In a landslide victory, Canadian Olympic figure skating champions Virtue and Moir won the undisputed best photo of the 2018 Winter Olympic Games, defeating Toutant's impressive selfie 87 per cent to 13 per cent.
