Patrick Chan believes sport can help overcome tragedy after Paris attacks
'All we can do is move on and not let these people change our lives'
Canadian figure skater Patrick Chan was among the athletes competing the ISU Grand Prix event last weekend in France when Paris was attacked.
The two-time Olympic silver medallist spoke to CBC Sports host Scott Russell for Sports day in Canada about being so close to the tragic event.
The short programs of all four disciplines at the Trophée Eric Bompard competition had concluded on Nov. 13 in Bordeaux, France, which is about five hours away from Paris.
The French capital was then attacked, killing 130 people.
The figure skating event was cancelled the next day.
"I had no idea how bad it was until the next morning," said Chan.
"The whole point of the Olympics and sports is to bring people together from different parts of the country, different religions, different cultures and come in to one place to do something we love.
"We didn't have the chance to do that and that's unfortunate, but I just hope that it won't happen again. All we can do is move on and not let these people change our lives and change what we love to do."
