Usain Bolt is (still) the fastest man on the planet.
The 29-year-old Jamaican crossed the finish line in the 100-metre final with a time of 9.81 seconds, completing a historic three-peat to defend his Olympic title. American Justin Gatlin (9.89) and Canadian Andre De Grasse (9.91) won the silver and bronze medals respectively.
In the semifinal earlier Sunday night Canadian Andre De Grasse looked back three times to see if he had, in fact, cleared the field in a move that made his personal best-tying time of 9.92 all the more impressive.
Nicole Sifuentes is 'done' with the 1,500m.
The Winnipeg runner was coming off a year of posting personal best times in the middle distance race but, in a post-race interview with the CBC's Scott Oake Sunday night, she said she was done with racing after failing to make the final in the women's 1,500-metre.
Greco-Roman wrestler Roman Vlasov defended his title.
The 2012 Olympic champion in the 75-kilogram weight class defeated Mark Madsen of Denmark in the gold medal match Sunday. Vlasov had a hard road to the gold after passing out in a preliminary match and bleeding from the face at points during the last day of competition.
Iranian wrestler Saeid Morad Abdvali won the bronze medal after defeating another Dane, Mark Overgaard Madsen.
Kenyan Jemima Sumgong won the women's marathon.
Sumgong, who won the London marathon earlier this year, strode to an Olympic gold medal on Sunday with a time of 2:24:04. Canadian Lanni Marchant finished nine minutes and four seconds later — good enough for 24th — a couple days after finishing the 10,000-metre. Marchant is the first Canadian to attempt, and complete, both in the Olympics.
Here's some of the things the runners ran past on their marathon.
Jennifer Abel landed just off the podium in the 3m springboard.
Abel came out of her tuck a little loose on her fifth and final dive giving Italy's Tania Cagnotto just enough room to edge the Canadian into fourth place behind the Chinese gold and silver medal-winners. Canada's Pamela Ware finished in seventh.
Andy Murray became the 1st to win 2 Olympic singles titles.
The Brit became the first tennis player in Olympic history with two singles gold medals, winning his second in a row by wearing down Argentina's Juan Martin del Potro (pictured) 7-5, 4-6, 6-2, 7-5 in a final that lasted a tad more than four hours Sunday.
In the bronze medal match, Kei Nishikori earned Japan its first Olympic tennis medal in 86 years after besting Rafael Nadal on Sunday in Rio. The Spaniard will leave Brazil with a gold medal from the men's doubles for Spain.
Canadians jumped into equestrian semifinals.
All four Canadians competing had a strong showing in the first Olympic equestrian jumping qualifier on Sunday. Here's Argentina rider Jose Maria Larocca riding Cornet Du Lys in the jumping team qualifier.
Bansley and Pavan were bumped out of medal contention.
The Canadian beach volleyballers were eliminated in the quarterfinals in straight-sets against Germany after beating fellow Canadians Jamie Broder and Kristina Valjas on Saturday.
