Earning his first podium of the year, Kyle Jones won the silver medal at the 2015 Cozumel ITU World Cup, while Richard Murray of South Africa capped off his season with a 1st place finish.

Canada's Kyle Jones ended his season with a silver finish at the Triathlon World Cup in Cozumel, Mexico, on Sunday.

The 30-year-old Olympian struggled throughout the season with injury and some bad luck, but completed his final race of the year in a second-place time of 55 minutes 14 seconds in the sprint distance format.

It was the third world cup medal for the Oakville, Ont. native, who finished 25th at the 2012 London Olympics.

"I'm very happy with the result today," Jones said.

"I knew I was capable of a performance like that, and to go out and deliver it felt great. I've had some setbacks this year but through it all I've always kept my head down and continued to move forward."

Jones was solid throughout the 750-metre swim, 20-kilometre bike and five-kilometre run course. He kept up with the pack during the swim, but fell back in the bike phase.

"On the first lap I had to make up quite a bit of ground, but tried to stay as cool as I could because I knew I would need it on the second lap," Jones said.

"But I felt strong and put a surge in with about 800 metres to go and it paid off."

South Africa's Richard Murray won the race with a time of 55:03, while Hungary's Gabor Faldum rounded out the men's podium in third with a time of 55:15.

"This result is a great confidence booster and will also give my ranking, which took a big hit through the injuries, a nice boost."
