Roberts, Prospal sign with busy Lightning
Tampa still trying to come to terms with Brian Rolston
When Gary Roberts steps on the ice this fall for his 1,195th career National Hockey League game, it will be in the uniform of the Tampa Bay Lightning.
The Eastern Division club continued to make news Monday, as the opening of free agency loomed at midnight, by signing the 42-year-old forward to a one-year contract.
The news about Roberts came with word forward Vinny Prospal has been inked to a multi-year deal.
Prospal, 33, played 62 games with Tampa this past season before being traded to Philadelphia at the deadline. He was sent back in the off-season for two draft picks.
Roberts had three goals and 15 points in an injury ravaged season with Pittsburgh last season and has gone through Calgary, Carolina, Toronto and Florida on his way to 434 career goals and 903 points.
Prospal had 29 goals and 57 points before he was traded to Philadelphia.
The Lightning also confirmed a multi-year deal with Ryan Malone, the former Pittsburgh forward.
Tampa was still trying to come to terms with forward Brian Rolston before midnight, having obtained exclusive negotiating rights from Minnesota on Sunday.
