Gretzky, the NHL's all-time leading scorer, was joined on stage Friday by teammates including Mark Messier, Jari Kurri, Glenn Anderson, Grant Fuhr, and Paul Coffey.
Gretzky's remarks came on the same night that fans gave a standing ovation to former Oilers owner Peter Pocklington, who has been vilified for trading Gretzky to the Los Angeles Kings in 1988.
