P.K. Subban scores from centre ice, picks up penalty

Montreal Canadiens defenceman P.K. Subban let his emotions get the best of him after he scored his fourth goal of the season from the neutral zone against Columbus on Monday night.

Montreal Canadiens star defenceman P.K. Subban scored his fourth goal of the season in characteristically dramatic fashion.

The 26-year-old rifled a slapshot from the neutral zone in Monday's game against the Columbus Blue Jackets to even the score in the second period.

Immediately after beating Columbus goalie Joonas Korpisalo, Subban was sent to the box for unsportsmanlike conduct.

It's unclear what exactly triggered Subban's shove to the Jackets' Brandon Dubinsky in the midst of his goal celebration.

"I'll respect the ref's decision. For me, obviously I was just trying to get my team going, but I got to keep my emotions in check. There's no need for me to touch him there," Subban said.

"[Dubinsky] didn't do anything wrong. If anything, I should have just skated to the bench...I wasn't trying to get in anyone's grill there, but maybe my celebration was a little emphatic."

The Blue Jackets didn't do any damage on that man advantage, but they went on to a 5-2 victory over the visiting Canadiens.

Despite the penalty and his team's recent woes, Subban seems to be a bright spot for the Montreal Canadiens. He has three goals in his last seven games after being held to a single goal over the previous 42.
