Penguins send Tyler Kennedy to Sharks: Trade roundup

The Pittsburgh Penguins' busy off-season continues as they traded forward Tyler Kennedy to the San Jose Sharks for a second-round pick in Sunday's NHL draft.

The Penguins got the 50th overall pick for the rights to Kennedy, who is a restricted free agent.

Kennedy, 26, had six goals and five assists in 46 regular-season games and two goals and three assists in nine playoff games.

"Tyler is a highly-competitive forward who plays with speed and has a history of scoring big goals," Sharks general manager Doug Wilson said in a statement. "He has played in a lot of playoff games over the last past five seasons, won a Stanley Cup and we think he fits in perfectly with our group and how we want to play the game."

Neiderreiter to Wild

The New York Islanders have traded right wing Nino Neiderreiter to the Minnesota Wild for right wing Cal Clutterbuck and a third-round pick, No. 70 overall in Sunday's NHL draft.

The deal was made during the draft Sunday, shortly before New York selected defenceman Ryan Pulock with the 15th selection.

Neiderreiter, the fifth overall selection by the Islanders in 2010, has two goals in 64 career NHL games. He played in the AHL last season.

The 25-year-old Clutterbuck was due to be a restricted free agent in five days.

Clutterbuck was always among the league's leaders in hits. He is an intense player who for a while gave the Wild decent production on the third line. He had 19 goals and 15 assists in the 2010-11

season, but following the lockout this year he scored only four goals in 42 games.

Bolland to Maple Leafs

Dave Bolland's Game 6 game winner may be the last goal he'll score for the Chicago Blackhawks.

The Stanley Cup champions traded Bolland to the Toronto Maple Leafs for three draft picks Sunday at the NHL draft. The Blackhawks received the 51st and 117th picks in this year's draft, and a fourth-rounder next season.

The Boston Bruins had a 2-1 lead with 2 minutes left in Game 6, and the Stanley Cup was all but packed away for a Game 7 back in Chicago.

But then Bryan Bickell tied it with 1:16 left, and Bolland scored 17 seconds later to give the Blackhawks the lead.

Bolland missed the entire first-round series vs. Minnesota with an injury.

Jets acquire Michael Frolik

The Winnipeg Jets made a move to give them some forward depth Sunday, acquiring Michael Frolik from the Chicago Blackhawks in exchange for the 74th and 134th overall picks in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft.

Frolik is coming off a Stanley Cup win with the Blackhawks, and scored three goals and seven assists in 23 post-season games this year. He is scheduled to become a restricted free agent after his current deal, which carries a cap hit of $2.33 million US, runs out after next season.

The 25-year-old native of Kladno, Czech Republic is a two-time 20-goal scorer, but only found the back of the net three times this past season for Chicago.

Hurricanes land Sekera from Sabres for McBain

The Carolina Hurricanes and Buffalo Sabres swapped defencemen on Sunday at the NHL Entry Draft.

Carolina acquired blue-liner Andrej Sekera from Buffalo in exchange for fellow rearguard Jamie McBain and the 35th overall pick.

Sekera had two goals and 10 assists in 37 games this year for Buffalo, and McBain has 75 points in 206 career games in four seasons with Carolina.

Canucks ship Schneider to Devils

The Vancouver Canucks have solved their goaltender drama, but not in the way most people expected.

The Canucks traded Cory Schneider to the New Jersey Devils for the ninth pick in the NHL draft, leaving Roberto Luongo as the starting goalie.

Gillis said he "had to listen" to offers on Schneider.

The one he took got the Canucks London Knights forward Bo Horvat at No. 9. Horvat, an 18-year-old centre, played the past two seasons for the Knights of the Ontario Hockey League. He had 33 goals and 28 assists in 2012-13.
