NHL pre-season: Canadiens take down rival Bruins in Quebec City
Senators win pre-season edition of the Battle of Ontario in Saskatoon
Long-time rivals battled during pre-season action in Quebec City on Tuesday as the Montreal Canadiens thrilled fans with a 4-3 victory over the Boston Bruins.
Montreal winger Daniel Carr played the hero, scoring the game winner with 4:50 remaining in the third period. The 24-year-old picked off a Zdeno Chara pass at the blue-line, skated around Adam McQuiad and fooled Tuukka Rask to help make his case for a roster spot with the Canadiens.
"His strength is his play around the net," coach Michel Therrien said of Carr, who had six goals in 23 games for Montreal last season, which was split between the NHL club and St. John's in the American Hockey League. "He's good at puck recovery.
"We're aware that he hasn't played a lot of NHL games and that there are a lot of things he needs to work on, but he brings a certain element — he can produce on attack, and that can't be overlooked."
Artturi Lehkonen drilled in his first pre-season goal off an Alexander Radulov pass in the second period. The 21-year-old is also fighting for a full-time position in Montreal.
Jeff Petry and Alex Galchenyuk also scored for Montreal in the back-and-forth match. Brian Flynn made an early exit from the game due to neck pain after taking a hit from Jake Debrusk.
Sens top Leafs in Saskatoon
Bobby Ryan scored the power-play winner 21 seconds into overtime to lead the Ottawa Senators to a 3-2 victory over the Toronto Maple Leafs on Tuesday at the SaskTel Centre in Saskatoon.
Derick Brassard and Matt Puempel also scored for the Senators.
Byron Froese and Kasperi Kapanen replied for the Maple Leafs in front of a crowd of 13,094, who were a little distracted by Canada's baseball team.

Patrick Maroon had a goal and an assist as the Edmonton Oilers came away with a 2-1 victory over the Anaheim Ducks on Tuesday.
Mark Letestu also scored for the Oilers, who improved to 4-2-0 in the pre-season.
Nick Sorensen replied for the Ducks, who are winless in exhibition at 0-4-1.
