NHL playoffs: 3 stories from Sunday night

The Calgary Flames' post-season came to an end with a loss to the Ducks, while the Rangers beat the Capitals to force a Game 7.

Here are three stories from Sunday night's NHL playoff action:

Flames eliminated in OT

The Flames were eliminated from the playoffs as the Ducks beat them 3-2 in overtime, ending Calgary's post-season run.

The Flames took an early lead, going up 1-0 in the first and holding on to a 2-1 lead after two periods. Jiri Hudler and Dennis Wideman had points on both of Calgary's regulation goals.

Johnny Gaudreau scored the second goal for the Flames.

Anaheim's Matt Beleskey scored a power-play goal less than a minute into the third to tie things up and set up overtime. Beleskey is on a five-game goal streak, a playoff record for the franchise.

Despite strong goaltending from Karri Ramo in overtime, Corey Perry scored the winning goal less than three minutes into the extra frame to give his team a ticket to the third round.

Ramo made 44 saves as the Ducks outshot the Flames 46-19.

Before losing all three playoff games in Anaheim this year, the Flames had dropped 20 straight regular-season meetings there.

The Ducks will face Chicago in the Western Conference final.

Scary Perry

There was a frightening moment for Ducks forward Corey Perry during the second period when he collided with the Flames' Matt Stajan, resulting in immediate discomfort.

Perry, the No. 1 point-earner in the playoffs with 14, hurt his knee as Stajan turned into him.

Perry missed one shift before returning to the game.

Rangers force Game 7

The New York Rangers survived to play again, defeating the Capitals 4-3 and tying the series with Washington at three games apiece. Both teams finally found the net as it has been a low-scoring series so far.

Things got off to a quick start with New York's Chris Kreider scoring less than a minute into the game. He added a second one just before time ran out in the first, giving him a goal in the first and last minute of the period, and putting the Rangers up by two.

His second goal just beat the buzzer.

Rick Nash scored his second goal of the playoffs less than a minute into the third, and before long New York had a three-goal lead. 

Washington responded with two goals and a ton of intensity to get within a tally. The Capitals were energized, playing at times during the second half of the third like they were on an extended power play.

But the strong play of New York goalie Henrik Lundqvist, who made 42 saves, was too much for the Capitals.

It was the first playoff game since the year 2000 that featured a goal in the opening minute of each period
