Maple Leafs place Mike Komisarek on waivers
Defenceman waives no movement clause, could suit up for AHL's Marlies if unclaimed
The Toronto Maple Leafs placed seldom-used defenceman Mike Komisarek on waivers Wednesday.
He waived his no movement clause and if he goes unclaimed by another NHL team, the 31-year-old will be sent to the AHL's Toronto Marlies.
The New York native has only played in four games for the Leafs this season, registering two penalty minutes and a plus-2.
He is in the fourth season of a five-year, $22.5 million US pact he signed with the Leafs as a free agent in 2009, and was expected to add a gritty, hard-hitting presence to Toronto's blue-line.
Komisarek, though, has largely struggled with his health and inconsistencies during his time with the Blue and White, resulting in missing games due to either injuries or being a healthy scratch. The six-foot-four, 243-pound defender has played in 519 career games with the Canadiens and Leafs, scoring 14 goals and 63 assists in that span.
He was an all-star in his final season with the Habs before he joined Toronto.
Komisarek suited up in just 34 games in 2009-10, and just 45 games last season. He saw action in 75 contests in 2010-11.
