A pair of Canadian NHL teams had much different results on home ice Thursday night. The Senators shut the door on the Blue Jackets, while the Canadiens allowed the Coyotes to feast early before putting up a fight. Here's how they fared last night.

Senators snap Jackets streak

Erik Karlsson fired in a pair of goals and added an assist, while Craig Anderson turned aside 25 shots as the Ottawa Senators won in regulation on home ice for just the second time this season, blanking the Columbus Blue Jackets, 3-0.

After a scoreless first period, Karlsson potted a rebound off Jean-Gabriel Pageau's shot that hit the post. Less than two minutes later, Karlsson doubled the lead with a shot screened by Bobby Ryan.

Anderson picked up his seventh win of the season and 30th career shutout as the Senators ended the Blue Jackets win streak at three.

Canadiens rally too late

The Arizona Coyotes pounced on Montreal Canadiens goaltender Mike Condon with early and accurate shooting, building a 3-0 lead before hanging on to nip the Habs at the Bell Centre, 3-2.

Martin Hanzal and Shane Doan had first period goals and Oliver Ekman-Larsson added a third Coyotes tally in the second period on just the sixth shot directed at Condon.

Max Pacioretty, in the second period, and Dale Weise in the final minute of the game with Condon pulled for an extra attacker, replied for the Canadiens who have gone four games (1-2-1) without without winning in regulation.

Capitals' Ovechkin sets record

Washington Capitals winger Alex Ovechkin broke the NHL goal-scoring record for a Russian-born player with his 484th goal, but it came in a losing cause as the Dallas Stars picked up a road win, 3-2.

Ovechkin's third period goal tied the game at 2-2 and broke the mark established by Sergei Fedorov.

After a standing ovation and chants of "Ovie! Ovie!" the Stars' Jason Spezza ruined the evening for the Verizon Centre crowd, by converting a turnover into the game-winning goal.
