Someone has stolen a Stanley Cup ring that used to belong to former Toronto Maple Leafs owner Harold Ballard.

Harold Ballard Jr., son of the late Leafs owner, reported some jewelry was stolen from his home in the Georgian Bay community of Tiny Township.

"It was hidden away -- I had it hidden -- but obviously not well enough," Ballard told CTV on Thursday.

He said the theft occurred while he was on vacation in Florida and he hopes whoever took it will return it.

"It's something that wasn't mine," he said. "I expected to pass it on to my son."

Const. David Hobson of Ontario Provincial Police says the ring is "priceless."

The gold ring has an image of the Stanley Cup on its face and the four dates of the 1961-67 Toronto Maple Leaf Stanley Cup wins on its sides. Harold Ballard's name inscribed on the inside.

Also taken was a Rolex watch, described as gold and silver in colour with a white face.

The theft happened sometime between Oct. 13 and Oct. 20, said Hobson, adding anyone who sees the unusual ring should contact provincial police at the Southern Georgian Bay detachment.

"I would say it falls in the category of priceless," Hobson said Thursday. "If either of these items has been seen out in the marketplace we'd be very much interested in hearing about it."
