Daniel Alfredsson was the Ottawa Senators' captain for more than a decade, but he received a welcome fit for a king upon his return to the Nation's Capital on Sunday.
The 40-year-old Swedish forward, now a member of the Detroit Red Wings, played his first game in Ottawa since bolting town via free agency in the off-season.
He was serenaded with a video tribute and standing ovation from thousands of Senators faithful, who demonstrated their appreciation for the revered veteran who donned the Spartan on his sweater for over 17 seasons.
