Fans of the Sabres and Oilers (maybe even the Leafs) will be salivating over this.

Connor McDavid, the presumptive top overall pick in this year's NHL draft, added to his brilliant junior season by scoring off a breathtaking end-to-end rush in the Erie Otters' 8-4 win over the Guelph Storm on Wednesday night.

McDavid finished with four goals and two assists for Erie, bringing his season points total to 98 in just 37 games. He's recorded at least a point in each of his last 22 games.

The 18-year-old centre trails OHL scoring leader Mitchell Marner of London by only 12 points, despite playing in 15 fewer games. McDavid missed a stretch after suffering a hand injury during an in-game fight in November.

The Buffalo Sabres head into Thursday's NHL games with a five-point "lead" on Edmonton for the league's worst record, which brings with it the best odds (20 per cent) of winning the lottery to determine which team gets the first overall draft choice — and, presumably, McDavid. The second-worst team gets a 13.5 per cent chance.

Toronto has the NHL's fifth-worst record, which comes with an 8.5 per cent chance of landing the top pick.
