There was no announcement made in the press box as to why the league's No. 1 goaltender left the game. He was replaced by Mike Condon.

Price stopped 22 shots in the first 40 minutes and the Canadiens led 2-1 at the break. They added two scores in the first 1:29 of the third period for a 4-1 advantage.
Price won the Ted Lindsay, Jennings, Vezina and Hart trophies last season and was the first goaltender in NHL history to win all four awards in the same season.
