How Canadian NHL teams fared last night

There were four Canadian NHL teams in action on Thursday night. Here's a quick look at how they fared:

Canadiens lose Subban in win

The Montreal Canadiens gained two key points with a 3-2 victory on home ice over the Buffalo Sabres but lost defenceman P.K. Subban who collided with teammate Alexei Emelin and was taken off the ice on a stretcher before being transported to hospital.

Torrey Mitchell scored the game-winner for the Canadiens in the third period before Subban was injured. Alex Galchenyuk scored twice to give Montreal a second-period lead before former Canadiens' captain Brian Gionta tied the score early in the third period.

The Canadiens moved into a tie with the Ottawa Senators with 70 points, six points out of the final Eastern Conference playoff spot.

McDavid to the rescue for Oilers

Connor McDavid scored with 7:29 remaining in the third period and his goal held up as the decisive marker in a 2-1 win over the Minnesota Wild. 

The Edmonton Oilers rookie has four goals in his last six games.

Senators fall to ageless wonder

Well, Jaromir Jagr does actually have an age, he's 44, but he showed no signs of slowing down in a 6-2 thumping of the Ottawa Senators.

The Florida Panthers forward scored two goals and reached the 50-point plateau for the 20th time. He joins Ron Francis, Gordie Howe, Ray Bourque and Mark Messier as the only players in that club. 

Jets can't hold off Red Wings

The Winnipeg Jets held an early 2-0 lead over the Red Wings in Detroit but couldn't stop a Red Wings' comeback that produced a 3-2 victory.

Justin Abdelkader assisted on the first Detroit goal and scored with 4:36 remaining to key the attack.

Marko Dano and Tyler Myers had the Jets goals but the Red Wings pressured Jets goaltender Michael Hutchison with 35 shots to come away with the win.
