Impressions

  • The Canadian juniors continue to be somewhat jittery in game action. Canada'sonly goal scorer was a defenceman, Vancouver Canucks prospect Frank Corrado of the Sudbury Wolves.
  • It wasn't a good showing. But these are the guys fighting for the few open spots on the team.
  • Head coach Steve Spott didn't dress defencemen Dougie Hamilton, Scott Harrington, Morgan Rielly and Xavier Ouellett as well as forwards Phillip Danault, Jonathan Huberdeau, Charles Hudon, Boone Jenner, Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, Brett Ritchie, Mark Scheifele and Ryan Strome. All appear to be a lock to make the team.
  • Ouellett continues to recover from an ankle injury. He hasn't played in a game in two weeks, but may see action tomorrow.
  • Goalies Malcolm Subban and Jordan Binnington tended goal for Canada, while Laurent Brossoit and Jake Patterson played for the Golden Bears.
  • The Golden Bears are the No. 1 ranked team in Canadian university hockey this season, but they were missing two of their best players in defenceman Ian Barteaux and forward Sean Ringrose due to school commitments.
