Brodeur to miss Monday's start with injury

New Jersey Devils goalie Martin Brodeur will not start Monday's game against the Buffalo Sabres after suffering a bruised elbow in Saturday night's 6-1 win over Atlanta.

He was scheduled to undergo an X-ray and MRI on Sunday.

Brodeur, one of the most durable players in the NHL, left the game in the second period and was replaced by backup Kevin Weekes.

Although he was replaced by Weekes, Brodeur was credited with his 544th career victory, leaving him seven shy of tying all-time NHL leader Patrick Roy (551). Brodeur is also five shutouts away from tying Terry Sawchuk's NHL career mark of 103.

Saturday marked the first time Brodeur had to leave a game with an injury since Oct. 26, 2005, when he suffered a knee injury and ended up missing six games.

Brodeur's streak of consecutive regular-season starts will end at 51. The career-high streak dates back to Jan. 8 of last season.

The Devils have called up goalie Jeff Frazee from Trenton in the ECHL.

The Devils are already missing Brian Rolston (high ankle sprain), Bobby Holik (broken right pinkie), Andy Greene (broken right hand) and Pierre-Luc Letourneau-Leblond (cracked orbital bone).
