The New York Islanders did as expected and selected Canadian OHL sniper John Tavares with the top pick in the NHL Entry Draft on Friday in Montreal, and the Lightning followed by snapping up Swedish defenceman Victor Hedman.

Highly touted younsters Matt Duchene, Evander Kane and Brayden Schenn also were picked high, while the Canucks, Oilers, Flames, Leafs, Senators and Habs grabbed their newest players.
