The Chicago Blackhawks announced a deal on Friday that brings aboard David Toews, younger brother of captain Jonathan.

The New York Islanders, who selected Toews in the third round of the 2008 NHL draft, will receive future considerations.

Toews scored 20 and 28 assists in 60 games with Brandon last season, his first season in the Western Hockey League.

The 21-year-old Winnipeg native had spent the previous two seasons playing collegiately with the University of North Dakota.

It is not believed that the newest member of the Blackhawks will be as productive offensively as his older brother, but scouts have lauded his hockey intelligence and two-way play.

Jonathan Toews helped lead Chicago to its first Stanley Cup in 49 years in 2009-10, just his third full season in the NHL.
