St. Louis Blues head coach Andy Murray agreed Tuesday to oversee Team Canada at the upcoming world men's hockey championship.

Murray, who coached Canada to gold medals in 1997 and 2003, will be assisted by Gerard Gallant and Mike Johnston.

"We've put together a coaching staff with tremendous international experience and I am looking forward to working with them," Team Canada rookie general manager Steve Yzerman said.

Phoenix Coyotes captain Shane Doan, Blues defenceman Eric Brewer, Edmonton Oilers goaltender Dwayne Roloson and forwards Rick Nash of the Columbus Blue Jackets and Michael Cammalleri of the Los Angeles Kings have committed to play in Moscow.

"These players bring a wealth of leadership and experience, and we feel this is an outstanding core group of players to start with," said Yzerman, who also confirmed Florida Panthers head coach Jacques Martin as assistant GM.

Team Canada opens the tournament April 28 against Germany.
