Stamps re-sign defensive co-ordinator Jones

The Calgary Stampeders have signed defensive co-ordinator Chris Jones to a contract extension.

The Calgary Stampeders have signed defensive co-ordinator Chris Jones to a contract extension.

In addition to his coaching duties, Jones will also be the club's assistant director of player personnel.

"Along with the extension, I have been offered an expanded role within the personnel department," Jones said in a statement Wednesday. "The Calgary Stampeders have very solid individuals in leadership roles and I feel at this time it is in my best interest to learn from them.

"My family and I love the city of Calgary and we are very excited about being with the Stampeders in the near future."

Jones joined the Stampeders in 2008 after six years with the Montreal Alouettes. In his first season in Calgary, Jones built a defence that allowed the fewest points in the league and helped the team capture the Grey Cup.

Last year, Calgary was ranked third in fewest points allowed in the CFL.

"I have appreciated Chris's enthusiasm in his work during the off-season the past two years within our personnel department," said Stampeders head coach and GM John Hufnagel. "With this extension, it not only provides this team with a great defensive co-ordinator, but also an opportunity for Chris to expand his expertise within an organization."
