Riders release Rodriguez, put Dorsey on IR
Saskatchewan on Tuesday announced a pair of transactions involving players who haven't quite captured their previous CFL form with the Riders.
Wide receiver Prechae Rodriguez , 25, was released after less than a season with the Riders. Rodriguez had 30 catches for 376 yards and two touchdowns.
The six-foot-five receiver was acquired in a trade with Hamilton in the offseason, a move that seemed to disappoint him.
Rodriguez hasn't been the same since a 2009 knee injury. He hauled in 70 passes for 1,099 yards the previous season to earn consideration for CFL's rookie of the year award after playing collegiately at Auburn.
For his CFL career, he has 145 receptions for 1,970 yards and 12 touchdowns.
The Riders also announced that return man Dominique Dorsey, 27, has been put on the nine-game injured reserve list.
The nature of the injury was not immediately clear, but it comes just hours after Saskatchewan brass admitted they were unhappy with the former CFL all-star. Dorsey botched two kicks in the team's one-sided loss to Winnipeg on Sunday.
Dorsey racked up 2,892 all-purpose yards with the Toronto Argonauts in 2008 to be named the league's top special teams player. He tried unsuccessfully to latch on in the NFL and could not spark the Argos upon his return late in the 2009 season.
