Drew Brees returning to Saints with 2-year, $50M deal: reports

New Orleans Saints star quarterback Drew Brees has agreed to a two-year contract worth approximately $50 million US, multiple media outlets reported on Tuesday.

The $25 million per season average is the same value as the previous deal he signed with New Orleans in 2018.

Brees, who announced earlier this month that he planned to return to the Saints, is the NFL's all-time leader in passing yards and touchdown passes. He was scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent on Wednesday.

The 41-year-old Brees started 11 games and completed 74.3 percent of his passes for 2,979 yards, 27 touchdowns and four interceptions in 2019. He missed five games with a thumb injury.

Including 14 seasons with New Orleans and five with the then-San Diego Chargers, he has thrown for 77,416 yards and 547 touchdowns in 275 games (274 starts).

Colts agree to deal with Philip Rivers: report

Philip Rivers spent more than a decade picking apart the Indianapolis Colts and irritating their fans.

On Wednesday, he'll become their new quarterback.

The longtime Chargers star agreed to a one-year contract with Indy on Tuesday, according to a person who spoke to the Associated Press on condition of anonymity because the deal cannot be officially announced until Wednesday.

General manager Chris Ballard has now filled two major off-season needs in two days — adding an eight-time Pro Bowl quarterback to the roster less than 24 hours after acquiring Pro Bowl defensive tackle DeForest Buckner in a trade with San Francisco.

Panthers replace Newton with Bridgewater

A person familiar with the negotiations says the Carolina Panthers and free agent quarterback Teddy Bridgewater have agreed to a three-year, $63 million contract to replace Cam Newton.

The person spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity on Tuesday because the deal cannot be announced until the start of the league year on Wednesday.

The Panthers announced earlier Tuesday they were parting ways with Newton, their No. 1 overall pick in 2011.

The 27-year-old Bridgewater started five games last season for the Saints, going 5-0 while completing 68% of his passes with nine touchdowns and two interceptions. He has spent the last two seasons in New Orleans after four with the Vikings.

Bridgewater previously worked one season in New Orleans with Joe Brady, who is now Carolina's offensive co-ordinator, and has some familiarity with the offensive scheme.

Bucs re-sign LB Pierre-Paul

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers took another step toward retaining some of the key pieces of an improved defence by agreeing to re-sign linebacker Jason Pierre-Paul to a two-year, $27 million US contract. The deal comes on the heels of the Bucs placing the franchise tag on NFL sack leader Shaquil Barrett, whose salary leaps from $4 million in 2019 to nearly $16 million for the upcoming season. Pierre-Paul has 21 sacks since being acquired in a trade from the New York Giants two years ago. He had 8 1/2 in 10 games last season after recovering from a neck injury.
