Lions' Simon, 3 Argos earn CFL honours

B.C. Lions wide receiver Geroy Simon was named the CFL offensive player of the week Wednesday, while Toronto Argonauts Michael Fletcher (defensive player of the week) Eric England (lineman of the week) and Bashir Levingston (outstanding special teams player) were also honoured.

B.C. Lions wide receiver Geroy Simon earned CFL offensive player of the week honours Wednesday for his performance in the Lions' 28-8 win over the Hamilton Tiger-Cats in Week 16.

Simon had six receptions for 132 yards and one touchdown in the victory, which helped B.C. clinch a playoff spot.

In 14 games this year, Simon has 1,554 receiving yards, just 482 yards shy of the single season recordset in 1994 by Allen Pitts.

Toronto Argonauts linebacker Michael Fletcherwas named defensive player of the week after recording a season-high nine tackles in the Argonauts 23-16 win over the Calgary Stampeders.

Followinga 39-18 loss to Calgary just aweek earlier, Fletcher led a rejuvenatedArgonauts defence that held the Stampeders to one touchdown and three field goals.

Two other Argonautsreceived honours Wednesday:

  • Eric England was named lineman of the week after returning an interception 80 yards for a touchdown and recordinga sack for a 10-yard loss.
  • Kick returner Bashir Levingston returned two kickoffs for 66 yards, including a 58-yarder that led to a Toronto field goal, and returned three punts for 51 yards to earn the prize for outstanding special teams player.
