Edmonton to host 2010 Grey Cup: report

Edmonton reportedly has won the right to stage the Grey Cup in 2010.

The Grey Cup reportedly will be played in Alberta in consecutive seasons.

According to Rogers Sportsnet, Edmonton learned Monday that it has won the right to stage the CFL championship in 2010.

Calgary is slated to host this year's Grey Cup at McMahon Stadium, where the plan is to install 10,000 temporary seats.

The report claimed Edmonton will have to make some modifications to Commonwealth Stadium, which seats 60,081 for football.

Edmonton hasn't hosted the Grey Cup since 2002, when the hometown Eskimos lost 25-16 to the Montreal Alouettes in front of a spillover crowd of 62,531.

Commonwealth Stadium was the site of the 1997 Grey Cup, won 47-23 by the Toronto Argonauts over the Saskatchewan Roughriders; and the 1984 Grey Cup, in which the Winnipeg Blue Bombers whipped the Hamilton Tiger-Cats 47-17.
