Henry Burris and the CFL's over-40 club

On Sunday, Henry Burris and the Ottawa Redblacks will play in their second straight Grey Cup. At 41, the veteran QB has joined the group of CFL players who excelled into (relatively) old age.

Where Ottawa's QB stacks up among the oldest players ever

On Sunday, Henry Burris and the Ottawa Redblacks will play in their second straight Grey Cup.

Having earned the CFL's most outstanding player honour last year, the 41-year-old quarterback continues to prove that age is nothing but a number.

Here's where the 20-year pro and two-time Grey Cup champion stacks up among the oldest players in league history.

Calvillo is one of only a few professional quarterbacks to throw more than 400 touchdown passes, putting his name among NFL greats like Brett Favre, Peyton Manning and Tom Brady. A five-time CFL all-star and three-time most outstanding player, Calvillo retired from the Montreal Alouettes in 2013 after 15 years with the team and 19 years in the league. He is pro football's all-time leader in passing yards.

Danny McManus – Age at last game: 41 years, 4 months

McManus ended his career in 2006 having passed for more than 50,000 yards int his 17-year CFL career. The former quarterback is now an assistant general manager for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.

Burris lead the Ottawa Redblacks to a 35-23 victory over the defending champion Edmonton Eskimos last Sunday to earn a second straight trip to the Grey Cup. Having already earned two titles with the Calgary Stampeders, in 1998 and 2008, the quarterback will be facing off against them this Sunday at BMO Field. If he and the Redblacks can pull off the win, he will have earned a Grey Cup ring in three different decades.

Retired in 2001, this two-time all-star punter played on an astounding seven Grey Cup-winning teams. He played 19 season in all, with nine different teams, including a short stint with the NFL's San Diego Chargers in 1989.

Troy Westwood – Age at last game: 42 years, 8 months

Born in Manitoba, Westwood played 19 years as a punter for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers before retiring in 2009.  A true multi-sport athlete, he has tried his hand at boxing and played briefly for the Winnipeg Fury soccer team before joining the Bombers in 1991.

Damon Allen – Age at last game: 44 years, 3 months

Considered one of the greatest players in CFL history, Allen earned four Grey Cup titles — in 1987, 1993, 2000 and 2004 — and three times earned Grey Cup MVP honours. The all-star quarterback ended his career in 2007 after 23 years in the league.

Lui Passaglia – Age at last game: 46 years, 5 months

(Ryan Remiorz/Canadian Press)

Born in British Columbia, Passaglia played an astounding 25 years as a kicker for the B.C. Lions before retiring in 2000. Having played for three Grey Cup-winning teams, he was inducted into the Canadian Sports Hall of fame in 2011.

Paul McCallum – Age at last game: 46 years, 10 months

After retiring in March, the Lions kicker was not quite ready to hang up the cleats, coming out of retirement earlier this month to help his team on their playoff run. Unfortunately, they were defeated by the Stampeders in the West final last weekend, but the defeat certainly won't taint McCallum's already impressive 23-year career.

Bob Cameron – Age at last game: 48 years, 4 months

(Randy Turner/Winnipeg Free Press)

Drafted in 1977, Cameron led the Blue Bombers to three Grey Cup victories, in 1984, 1988 and 1990. The all-star punter retired in 2002 after 23 years in the league and less than two years away from his 50th birthday, making him the oldest player in CFL history.
